Our Honeymoon to Kenya —by Allison & Graham
Full Itinerary
The two of us traveled together to Kenya on our honeymoon, for a private safari/Kenyan coast itinerary prepared for us by Cox & Kings.
We wanted to choose a place that neither one of us had been to (Graham lived in Asia for four years and I have traveled all throughout Europe). In addition, we both really wanted to go to Africa, and wanted to take advantage of the fact that we could take a little over two weeks to travel. Africa seemed to be the perfect destination, and one that required at least two weeks to really experience.
Since it was our first trip to Africa, the safari experience and the things we saw in the Masai Mara (e.g. three cheetahs catching a gazelle, watching the lion pride at sunset, and all of the Big Five that we came across during our game drives) really were incredible, and memories that will last a lifetime.
We really enjoyed ending our trip with the Kenyan coast, and was not only a nice, relaxing (and beautiful!) end to our trip, but an opportunity to reflect on all of the wonderful things we saw on safari. It was a great way to experience other parts of Africa that are spectacular and off the main path.
I think the level of service at the lodges and hotels really created a memorable experience for us. All of the proprietors / managers of the properties where we stayed were incredible: Rowana and Antony at Borana, Patrick at Naibor, and Fabrizio at Alfajiri were all amazing hosts and saw to it that we were taken care of in every way, whether it be special request meals, organizing activities, or just seeing to it that our stay was absolutely perfect.
All of our guides that were with us were guides that worked specifically for the lodge or camp in which we stayed, and all of them were tremendously knowledgeable, personable, and really enhanced our experience in each area.
Lydia, one of the local Cox & Kings representatives in Nairobi was incredibly sweet and helpful and made our transitions in and out of Nairobi seamless. In retrospect, we would have liked to have spent a day in Nairobi, just to experience the city more.
For our next trip, we would like to do either a luxury Indian Safari and the Maldives, or a trip to Peru and the Galapagos!
