Though small organized groups of tourists have explored these exotic and remote islands for the last quarter of a century, not until recently have such trips been anything more than rugged adventure. But that's no longer the case for 100 cruise ship passengers who each week ply the waters and island-hop for 3, 4, or 7-night cruises aboard the modern, all-suite, Galapagos Explorer II. Designed to provide both comfort and scientific information to 100 passengers visiting the Galapagos National Park, this vessel travels to the remotest islands of the Archipelago.
All cabins are situated outside, and average 250 square feet. Each offers queen or twin bed configurations, air conditioning, rich paneling, full-length wardrobes, marble baths, televisions with VCRs, refrigerator-bars, telephones, and 110 volt electric.
Dining aboard Galapagos Explorer II is open and one seating, in the informal, yet elegant restaurant. The renowned culinary staff prepares a daily fare of popular international and traditional Ecuadorian cuisine, as well as special diets, all served with style and flair. Lunch is served buffet-style on deck.
A well-stocked library, a science room and other facilities provide an environmentally friendly, educational cruise focusing on the natural history of Darwin's fabled Galapagos Archipelago. An outdoor pool, Jacuzzi and boutique for sundry items are also available. A doctor to handle minor illness or mishaps is always part of the crew. The Galapagos Explorer II is equipped with a special sewage treatment system that minimizes environmental disturbance, and produces its own fresh water. Six bilingual naturalist guides are on board. Standard crew size is 70.
CruiseReports magazine recently ranked the staterooms on the Galapagos Explorer II among the best in the industry in passenger satisfaction, based on a survey of more than 100 cruise ships worldwide. The ship was also featured on A&E Television Network's "Top Ten" series as the best choice for cruising and visiting the Galapagos Islands.
