SIGNATURE SAFARI JOURNEY

Tanzania is home to some of the best game viewing on the African continent. This safari will take you onto the plains of the Serengeti, into the Ngorongoro Crater, around the flamingo-covered Lake Manyara and across baobab-strewn Tarangire Park. You’ll have a chance to meet the captivating Masai people in their villages and view spectacular scenery from light aircraft. We’ve chosen small, intimate lodges for their style, remote locations, and access to where the drama unfolds daily—where predators prey on vast herds of grazers..

Itinerary

Days 1-2

Arrival in Africa
Arusha is set in lush countryside at the foot of Mount Meru, and is blessed with a temperate climate. The lodge itself has sweeping views over the coffee estate and Mount Meru. Inspired by a traditional working coffee plantation, each private chalet features multi-level living areas, with huge balconies and fabulous fireplaces. Arusha Coffee Lodge or Mountain Village

Days 3-4

Tarangire National Park
The open plains of Tarangire are dotted with thousands of baobabs and are home to some of Africa’s largest herds of elephants. The permanent water of the river attracts these and other animals by the tens of thousands. Here, the emphasis is on wildlife, culture, and walking safaris. On night game drives, seek out rarely seen nocturnal animals. Oliver’s Camp or Kikoti Camp

Days 5-6

Lions of Lake Manyara
The incredible natural diversity of a rift valley lake, dense woodlands and steep mountainside landscapes make up Lake Manyara National Park. The park offers abundant sightings of wildlife such as zebra, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, waterbuck, impala, hyena and jackal. Manyara is also known for its wealth of bird life, especially Lesser and Greater Flamingos, as well as its famed tree climbing lions. Lake Manyara Tree Lodge or Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge

Days 7-8

Wild Abundance Inside the Ngorongoro Crater
Great buttressed slopes rise above the plains to plummet downward into the ancient caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater. This perfect natural amphitheater, bounded by 2,000-foot cliffs, covers an area of 100 square miles and has approximately 25,000 larger mammals—almost half zebra and wildebeest. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge or Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge

Days 9-11

Predator Versus Prey on the Serengeti Plains
The immense, open grasslands of the Serengeti are without a doubt one of Africa’s finest wildlife areas, and being there at the height of the migration is a never-to-be-forgotten experience. Search for Africa’s Big Five—leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Your experienced driver takes you to the best spots for sighting game, and affords you ample time to look, take pictures, and to fully absorb every moment. Grumeti River Camp or Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge
