Senior Asia Destination Specialist / Destination Expert


Department: Destinations Team / Inside Sales

Position Summary

The Asia destination specialist role at Cox & Kings, The Americas, is a dynamic, multi-faceted role that encompasses inside sales; account, client and supplier relationship development and management; custom itinerary creation; and the continual development of knowledge on destinations, products and the travel / tour operator industry. This position is ideal for an experienced Asia destination specialist with strong organizational skills and the resiliency of an entrepreneur.

Successful destination specialists possess a "get stuff done" attitude, enjoy a multi-faceted role, excel at delivering great customer service (which includes excellent listening skills, rapid replies, and the creation of itineraries that reflect a thorough understanding of client needs, preferences, and budget), and have the hunger and abilities of a salesperson to get the booking, delight customers and be recognized as best-in-industry. For this position, the candidate must have a deep understanding of the Asia region.

The responsibilities of a destination specialist include:

Account and client relationship management, and campaign (trip) delivery:

  • Maintain and deepen relationships with travel agents and customers
  • Qualify leads and develop a deep understanding of travelers' needs, preferences and budget guidelines
  • Quickly create detailed itineraries that inspires, reflect travelers' needs and preferences, offers memorable and unique experiences, is sensible logistically, and is within their budget
  • Provide service that exceeds agent and client expectations
  • Convert proposed itineraries into bookings
  • Collaborate with Guest Services team to ensure that passenger information is received, all travel documentation is accurate, and all pre-trip questions are answered
  • Liaise with on-the-ground contacts (and/or agent and traveler when appropriate) to ensure that on-trip services are rendered without issue, and work with on-the-ground resources, agent, and/or traveler to address any on-trip service issues or needs
  • Conduct post-trip follow-up and understand client's future travel needs
  • Ensure that all relevant information is entered in company's CRM and financial databases
  • Meet and exceed targets pertaining to sales, agent and client satisfaction and team work


Development, maintenance and demonstration of destination expertise:

  • Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of destinations offered by specialist. Knowledge may include products and services available to tourists through Cox & Kings and our competitors, estimated pricing, popular tourist attractions, local/lesser known attractions that may be of interest to clients, special insider access and activities, effects of seasonality, customs, regulatory issues (e.g., visa requirements), and practical routings
  • Remain current on new and upcoming products and services and local events available to tourists, and changes to existing products, services, and regulations through interaction with on-the-ground contacts, visits to destinations (FAM trips), and attention to current affairs and travel-industry and government bulletins
  • Share destination knowledge with team members, agents and travelers; demonstrate destination knowledge during the discussion and design of itineraries with agents and travelers and during presentations made at consumer, agent or industry events conducted in conjunction with the outside sales team


Supplier development and management:

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with day-to-day, operational staff at suppliers
  • Ensure that on-the-ground suppliers are delivering services that meet or exceed the high service-level requirements of Cox & Kings, The Americas
  • Stay informed of the latest products and services available from on-the-ground suppliers
  • Assist with the vetting of new on-the-ground suppliers
  • Collaborate with the product team at Cox & Kings and with the on-the-ground supplier to offer innovative, unique, exclusive high quality products and services for Cox & Kings clients


Skills and Requirements:

  • Proven track record in meeting and exceeding sales targets
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications
  • Must possess exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, critical thinking and decision-making capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of Asia, with emphasis on Japan.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills with demonstrated initiative and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to perform well under pressure in fast-paced environment and meet required deadlines.
  • Host and or participate in familiarization trips.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in similar position and relevant travel industry
  • Fluency in Japanese a plus

Position Summary

Cox & Kings, The Americas, is seeking a Director of Product Development to oversee and expand the company's growing product line. This position is ideal for an experienced product development manager with a strong drive to create best-in-class products, an entrepreneurial spirit, effective negotiation, relationship and project management skills, and a zeal for addressing marketplace needs, trends, and changes through unique product offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new compelling, unique products on a quarterly and ad hoc basis, and partner with destination specialists, marketing, and business development teams to create differentiated products for various audiences and distribution channels
  • Vet and contract destination management companies and other on-the-ground suppliers
  • Work in conjunction with destination specialists to maintain and strengthen relationships with on-the-ground suppliers and ensure that they are delivering services according to the high standards set forth in service-level agreements
  • Conduct research and analysis on a consistent basis to ensure that company products are appealing and priced competitively
  • Identify market trends and opportunities; propose and create FIT and group products that address trends and capture these business opportunities
  • Own product roadmap and calendars
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of products and services available in the marketplace at destinations worldwide and of products and services available through Cox & Kings, The Americas
  • In conjunction with business team, serve as a key point of contact for all new product and supply opportunities

Position Summary
The successful candidate will be a dynamic and results orientated individual who is intelligent, creative, forward thinking, and above all, able to demonstrate excellent sales skills and an entrepreneurial spirit.

At least five to seven years industry-related sales experience with a sound knowledge of luxury product and service is essential.

The successful candidate must embody a strong work ethic, excellent diplomatic skills, and should be able to take a strategic and macro outlook on every aspect of the job. He or she must not be afraid of making difficult decisions, often within a tight timeframe in a fast-moving environment. Candidates must possess the ability to 'think big' as well as creatively, and should have a sound grasp of both the industry and the relevant competition. They must be capable of making compelling high-level presentations and must possess strong skills in both written and oral communications.

Ultimately, the successful candidate will be both confident and competent. They will require the stature and poise to play a leadership role within the agency sales division of a leading global luxury brand company.
