Quito & Galapagos Islands

Visit the capital city Quito, nestled in the Andes and home to one of the best preserved colonial cities, before embarking on a five-day expedition cruise of the Galapagos Islands.
Day 1Arrive in Quito
Upon arrival in Quito, you will be welcomed by your Cox & Kings local representative and escorted by private car to your hotel, the JW Marriott, a TripAdvisor 2017 Traveler's Choice Winner, for your two-night, pre-cruise stay. The remainder of your day is at your leisure.JW Marriott - 2 Nights
Day 2Quito - Cuidad Mitad del Mundo - Quito
After breakfast, enjoy a privately guided tour of Quito, Ecuador's capital city and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit Quito's extremely well-preserved Old Town and 17th century churches.JW Marriott (B)
In the afternoon, head north with your driver and guide to the Middle of the World Monument, where you can literally stand on the equator, or have one foot in the Northern Hemisphere while having the other in the Southern Hemisphere. After straddling the hemispheres, visit the on-site museum before heading back to Quito's city center, where the remainder of the day is at your leisure.
Day 3Quito - The Galapagos
Enjoy a private transfer to the airport after breakfast for your flight to the Galapagos. Your naturalist guides will meet you at the airport and escort you and fellow guests to the M/V Galapagos Legend, a boutique expedition cruise ship with a maximum capacity of 100 guests.
After your welcome cocktail, your expedition begins. Your exact itinerary varies based on your departure date.
Guests on Itinerary B depart Baltra and visit Mosquera Islet in the afternoon. With no trail on the islet, walk openly on the islet and catch a glimpse of sea lions and birds such as herons and lava gulls.
Guests on Itinerary D fly into San Cristobal Airport. Visit the island's Museum of Natural History before heading for a high-intensity walk up Tijeratas Hill for scenic views and a frigate bird nesting colony.

Day 4The Galapagos Islands
Guests traveling on Itinerary B visit Egas Port on Santiago Island in the morning and Rabida Island in the afternoon. Highlights include seeing colonies of fur seals, black volcanic sand beach at Egas Port (which was also visited by Charles Darwin in 1835) and taking a dinghy on Rabida Island to see seabirds nesting alongside the marine cliffs.MV Galapagos Legend (B, L, D)
Guests traveling on Itinerary D visit Gardner Bay, Gardner and Osborn islets, and Suarez Point, all on Espanola Island. Highlights include catching a glimpse of finches, Nazca and Blue-footed Boobies and the world's largest colony of Waved Albatross. Additionally, see marine iguanas, lava lizards, and Sally Lightfoot Crabs.
Guests on both itineraries have opportunities to snorkel on this day to see marine life such as manta rays and reef sharks.
Day 5The Galapagos Islands
Guests traveling on Itinerary B visit Urbina Bay and Tagus Cove on Isabela Island today. Urbina Bay features a wide variety of plants, attracting different insects, birds and reptiles. See a coral reef uplifted by seismic activity in 1954. At Tagus Cove, observe a large number of Galapagos Penguins, which are the only species in the world to live in a tropical climate.MV Galapagos Legend (B, L, D)
Guests traveling on Itinerary D visit points on Floreana Island today. Floreana Island is known for its endemic vegetation, and large flamingo population. Swim or snorkel with sea turtles, reef fish, sea lions and penguins nearby.
Day 6The Galapagos Islands
Guests traveling on Itinerary B visit Fernandina Island and Isabela Island today. Both islands are known for its abundant sea fauna and wildlife. Highlights include viewing pelicans, penguins, and flightless cormorants at their nesting sites.MV Galapagos Legend (B, L, D)
Guests traveling on Itinerary D visit points on Santa Cruz island. Highlights include a tour of the Charles Darwin Research Station & Fausto Llerena Breeding Center, observing giant tortoises at the Highlands Turtoise Reserve and visiting a beach with a green hue, due to the olive colored crystals left on the beach from volcanic activity. You will also have free time to explore a small town on the island.
Guests on both itineraries can snorkel or take a dinghy ride to see the marine life up close.
Day 7The Galapagos Islands - Home
Guests on Itinerary B visit the Highlands Tortoise Reserve on Santa Cruz Island this morning. On the way to the highlands, pass through dense forests and what is referred to as a "birdwatchers' haven", due to almost every bird on the island living or migrating to this part of the island.
Guests on Itinerary D visit Carrion Point on Santa Cruz Island, an idyllic spot for observing the biodiversity of the island. Guests may snorkel with brilliant-colored fish and stingrays, and if lucky, whitetip sharks.
In the afternoon, all guests fly to Guayaquil or Quito for your flight home. Alternatively, extend your stay with an optional excursion to Ecuador's Mindo Cloud Forest, or to other destinations within Ecuador or Latin America, such as Peru or Colombia.
