    Upon arrival in Mumbai, you will be met by your local Cox & Kings representative and escorted to your hotel.

    Mumbai

    Explore Mumbai's kaleidoscopic past and vibrant present as you see some of the landmarks today. Visit India's largest open-air laundry and stroll through a bustling Crawford Market.

    To Vadodara

    After breakfast this morning, set sail to visit the 6th century city of caves on Elephanta Island, which display an incredible collection of rock art dedicated to Shiva. This evening, you will be transferred to Mumbai's Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus to board your train.

    Vadodara

    Arrive in Vadodara this morning. Visit the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a complex of largely unexcavated historical and culture sites that include an early Hindu hill fortress and the remains of the 16th-century capital of Gujarat. Following lunch onboard the train, visit the stunning collection of art at the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum. Enjoy high tea from the kitchens at the Laxmi Vilas Palace, the magnificent residence of the royal family.

    Palitana

    Upon arrival in Bhavnagar, embark on an excursion to the spectacular marble Jain temples of Palitana. Nicknamed the "city of temples," Palitana boasts nearly 900 marble-carved temples and is the holiest of all pilgrimage sites for India's Jain community. Return to the train for lunch and continue to Sasan Gir, home of the Asiatic lion.

    Sasan Gir / Somnathpur

    Accompanied by an expert naturalist, search for the only surviving lions in Asia as well a diverse range of other wildlife, including leopard, sloth bear, hyena, antelope, wild boar and monitor lizard. After the excitement of the morning, enjoy a relaxed lunch followed by a tribal dance before proceeding to the Somnath temple. Watch the vibrant village panorama unfold as you drive to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas (manifestations of Lord Shiva) of India.

    Little Rann of Kutch

    Explore the desert landscapes of the Little Rann of Kutch on an unforgettable safari in search of wild ass and water birds. Later, drive out for a village safari to meet the varied communities that call the Rann their home. You will find the Agarias, saltpanners, hard at work drying out the salt. Continue to a local school where you will be greeted by enthusiastic children eager to share information about themselves and learn about your part of the world. Return to the Deccan Odyssey for dinner.

  • Day 8
    Modhera & Patan

    Early this morning, enjoy an excursion to Modhera and the 11th-century Sun Temple. Continue to the Rani-ki-Vav step well, an impressive example of subterranean water-management architecture. Visit the Patola house, the center of the Salvi family’s traditional craft, the creating of exquisite silk Patola sarees.

  • Day 9
    Nashik

    This morning, arrive at Nashik and travel to Pandu Leni, one of the most ancient Jain and Buddhist cave temples in India. After your climb down from the caves, drive to the Grover Zampa vineyards for an exclusive tour of one of the finest Indian wine-producing facilities, followed by a guided tasting with the winery's sommelier. In the evening, disembark for a walk along the Godavari ghats where you can observe sacred Hindu rituals related to birth, death and initiation.

    To Mumbai

    This morning, arrive in Mumbai where your journey comes to an end. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel.
