Itinerary
Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you will be welcomed by your Cox & Kings local representative and transferred to your hotel. AtholPlace – 1-night
Transfer to the airport for your flight via Richard’s Bay to Phinda Game Reserve. With nearly 57,000 acres and a magnificent tapestry of woodland, grassland, wetland and forest, interspersed with mountain ranges, river courses, marshes and pans, Phinda offers a varied and rich wilderness experience. Search for the endangered rhino, watch a cheetah teach her cub how to hunt and luxuriate in the natural environment. Phinda Forest Lodge has 16 suites, each with an en suite bathroom and private deck. Phinda Mountain Lodge’s 25 suites each have a romantic en suite bathroom and a private plunge pool. Phinda Forest or Mountain Lodge – 3-nights (B, D)
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives and walks seeking out the resident wildlife, including unique species such as the suni antelope, duiker and nyala. Spot the sleek cheetah streaking through the plains, and marvel at the magnificent herds of elephants. Or glide down the Mzinene River in a small boat to experience the grandeur of the surrounding wilderness. If you’re interested in getting off the beaten path, additional activities such as Scuba diving, black rhino tracking, horseback riding, birding, scenic flights and even participating in the reserve’s ongoing leopard research can always be arranged. (B, L, D)
Fly north today into the private reserves bordering Kruger National Park, where you will transfer by road to Timbavati Private Game Reserve and your tented safari camp. Tanda Tula has 12 luxurious tented suites with en suite bathrooms featuring freestanding tubs and outdoor showers. The main area overlooks a waterhole where animals come to drink and boasts an infinity pool, lounge, dining area, bar and curio shop. During your leisure time in the camp, visit the relaxing spa for traditional treatments, learn about conservation from a local expert and attend a cultural song-and-dance performance under the southern skies. Tanda Tula Camp – 2-nights (B, L, D)
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives searching for the Big Five: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. Spot giraffes peeking out over the thorny acacia and hippos wallowing in the waterholes. Keep your eyes open for the extremely rare white lion, three of which call Timbavati home. If you’re feeling adventurous, immerse yourself in the bush with a night spent under the stars in the Machaton Hide. (B, L, D)
A short flight south today takes you to the Sabi Sand Game Reserves and Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Reserve. Chitwa Chitwa’s six luxury suites are individually decorated in an elegant style with open fireplaces, private plunge pools, all the modern comforts of home, and en suite bathrooms with tubs, as well as indoor and outdoor showers. If you’re traveling with family or friends, you might opt for the Charlsy Suite or the Chitwa House, which are each larger two-bedroom, two-bathroom units. Chitwa Chitwa – 3-nights (B, L, D)
Embark upon twice-daily game drives as well as bush walks in the northern Sabi Sand. Spot the Big Five as well as cheetah, hyena, hippo, wild dogs and an incredible variety of birdlife. Get a taste of rural African life with a cultural excursion where you have the chance to interact with some members of the local community. (B, L, D)
After a leisurely morning in the bush, fly to Johannesburg to connect with your onward flight. (B)
