Quintessential Kenya — NEW!
Kenya is the home of the safari. No other African country can boast such an incredible range of unique geographical features and species. From great migratory herds of the open savannah to authentic encounters with Masai and Samburu warriors, experience a world unchanged by the passage of time.
Itinerary
Upon arrival this evening in Nairobi, you will be welcomed by your Cox & Kings local representative and transferred by road to your hotel just outside the city. Macushla House or Fairmont The Norfolk – 1-night (D)
Fly from Nairobi to Amboseli National Park or the nearby Chyulu Hills, a spectacular region flanked by sweeping plains and dense cedar forests — and framed by the rolling Chyulu Hills and distant Mt. Kilimanjaro. Tortilis Camp or Ol Donyo Lodge – 3-nights (B, L, D)
Embark upon early morning and late afternoon game drives in Amboseli National Park or nearby Chyulu Hills. Among the predators and prey, spot herds of large-tusked, free-ranging elephants that meander in the swamps and grasslands. Members of the Masai tribe also live here, sharing the land with local conservation efforts. (B, L, D)
Today, fly by light aircraft to Samburu National Park, situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River in the dry northern reaches of Kenya. In this semi-arid setting, see Kenya’s “northern five”: beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra and Somali ostrich. Sightings of large herds of elephant and crocodile are common along the meandering Ewaso Nyiro River. Samburu herdsmen, dressed in rich red blankets, are often seen driving their herds. Larsen’s Camp or SaSaab Camp – 3-nights (B, L, D)
Savor two days of early morning and late afternoon game drives in Samburu National Park, complemented by cultural visits to the neighboring villages. (B, L, D)
Today you will fly to the Great Rift Valley’s highest lake. From your base on the shores of Lake Naivasha, explore the shallow soda waters of Lake Nakuru, with its incredible birdlife. The great range of game here includes giraffe, buffalo, rhino and Colobus monkeys calling from the treetops. Over 400 species of birds make this area a birder’s paradise. Loldia House or Hippo Point – 2-nights (B, L, D)
Spend a day looking for rhinos along the lakeshore of Nakuru, or catch a rare glimpse of the magnificent flocks of flamingos that inhabit the soda lake seasonally. (B, L, D)
Fly to the Masai Mara with its striking East African landscapes of wide plains interlaced with fertile rivers, framed under huge skies. Throughout the year, the Masai Mara is a place of natural drama, a kaleidoscope of color and life. Little Governors Camp or Mara Plains Camp – 3-nights (B, L, D)
Embark upon early morning and late afternoon game drives in the Masai Mara. The famed “Big Five” — elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and
buffalo — all roam the reserve, together with hundreds of other species, from the fastest animal on earth, the cheetah, to crocodiles and magnificent birds of prey. (B, L, D)
Option: Soar above the Masai Mara on a hot-air balloon followed by a champagne breakfast.
Today fly from the Masai Mara to Nairobi. Freshen up in your day room at either Macushla House or the Fairmont The Norfolk, and then discover some of Nairobi’s highlights: the Giraffe Center, the National Museum, the Masai market and more.
Option: On a private visit to Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant and Rhino Orphanage, interact one-on-one with the baby elephant orphans.
This evening, transfer to the airport for your onward flight. (B, L, D)
