Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive Amman
Upon arrival in Amman, you will be welcomed by your Cox & Kings local representative and transferred to your hotel. Amman, the modern and ancient capital of Jordan, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Four Seasons Hotel (Deluxe Room) – 2-nights
Day 2
Jerash / Umm Qais
Discover the well-preserved ancient city of Jerash and watch an electrifying re-enactment of a Roman Chariot Race in the 2,000 year old Hippodrome. Later, explore fascinating ruins including the imposing Triumphal Arch, the oval-shaped forum, marketplace, temples and two theaters, which were the focal points of Roman cultural life. Drive to Umm Qais for lunch at a panoramic viewpoint from which you can see Lake Tiberias, the Sea of Galilee, the Yarmouk River Canyon and the Golan Heights, all comprising part of the Great Rift Valley, which stretches down to East Africa. And on a clear day, you can even see the faraway, snowcapped peak of Mount Hermon. (B, L)
Day 3
Petra
Embark upon a classic drive along the King’s Highway toward the lost city of Petra. Along the way, marvel at the stunning, 6th-century Byzantine architecture. At the Church of St. George, marvel at the earliest surviving map of the Holy Land, dating back to 560 AD. Then wind your way through the spectacular Wadi al-Mujib Canyon to visit the imposing crusader castle at Kerak. Upon arrival in Petra, transfer to your hotel. This evening, experience the beautiful spectacle of Petra by Night (available on Monday, Wednesday & Thursday). On these occasions the approach to the Treasury through the narrow Siq is lit by thousands of candles whose flickering light casts an eerie, moving and bewitching atmosphere. On a clear day, this unique spectacle is complemented by the magnificent sparkling canopy of stars in the desert night sky. Movenpick Resort Hotel (Junior Suite) – 2-nights (B, L)

Option: Indulge in a culinary/cooking class at the renowned Petra Kitchen (also available on Day 4).
Day 4
Petra
Spend the day exploring the red sandstone city of Petra, built 2,000 years ago by nomadic Bedouins. This desert city, situated between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, was an important crossroads between Arabia, Egypt and Syria-Phoenicia and its inhabitants became rich by imposing duties on traveling caravans.

Petra is half-built, half-carved into the rock, and is surrounded by mountains riddled with passages and gorges. Recently named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, it is an awe-inspiring archaeological site, where ancient Eastern traditions blend with the glory of Greek architecture. From the narrow, winding passageway of the Siq and the great Treasury to the hilltop Monastery, discoveries await you at every turn. (B, L)

Option: Share tea with local Bedouins at their tented camp near Petra (also available on Day 3).
Day 5
The Dead Sea
Depart the lost city of Petra and travel toward the lowest point on Earth, the Dead Sea. Situated more than a 1,000 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea has attracted travelers in search of rejuvenation for hundreds of years. The sea’s high salt content makes swimmers giddily buoyant, and the placid, pale blue waters stretching out to the horizon are blissfully calm. On your way to the shores of the Dead Sea, stop at a museum, which introduces you to the history, ecology and geology of this natural wonder. Upon arrival in your elegant resort overlooking the sea, enjoy some time at leisure. Take a dip in the world’s saltiest waters, relax by the sparkling pools or pamper yourself with a trip to the luxurious spa. Kempinski Ishtar (Deluxe Room) – 1-night (B)
Day 6
Depart Jordan
Today, you will be transferred to the airport for your international flight (B)
