Itinerary
Upon arrival in Bali, you will be welcomed by your Cox & Kings local representative and transferred to the Orion II which is docked in Benoa. From lush rainforests to white-sand beaches lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Bali will enchant you. MV Orion II – 10 nights (D)
Spend a relaxing day at sea, enjoying the scenery and the amenities of your luxury yacht-like expedition cruise ship. (B, L, D)
Travel through the forest to the landmark Camp Leakey research station with its founder and ardent conservationist, Dr. Birute Galdikas, for an exclusive look into the operation of the Orangutan Foundation International’s wildlife rehabilitation center. You’ll see all three stageS of orangutan rehabilitation: the infant care facility, the “preschool,” and the forest training area. Keep your eyes open for other native wildlife, including the bizarre-looking proboscis monkey as well as 7 other primates, and over 220 types of birds, including hornbills, deep forest birds and many wetland species. Embark in local boats to explore the river system surrounding Camp Leakey and visit several feeding stations. Expert guides will help you make the most of this unforgettable and rare opportunity to get up close and personal with the orangutans living in the area. (B, L, D)
Gunung Palung National Park is one of only a handful of parks in the world where orangutans can be seen in the wild. Take Zodiacs to explore the Bayas River and do some wildlife spotting, as proboscis monkeys, macaques and the numerous bird species also make their homes in the park. (B, L, D)
One of the major cities in Kalimantan, Pontianak was founded in 1772 around an old trading station on the Borneo coast. (B, L, D)
The capital of the Malaysian state of Sarawak, Kuching is a vibrant and lively city. Visit the bustling Chinatown with its many shops selling traditional remedies and exotic foods. (B, L, D)
Kuching is also home to the Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, which was established in 1975 for the rehabilitation of wild animals that had been kept illegally as pets. Enjoy a guided visit to the center to witness firsthand the work they do in caring for orangutans and other wildlife of Borneo. (B, L, D)
The Orion II will arrive early today so that you can enjoy plenty of time in the Bako National Park. With rainforests, abundant wildlife, jungle streams, waterfalls, a myriad of plant life, secluded beaches and trekking trails, Bako is one of the most spectacular national parks in Borneo. (B, L, D)
