Traversing the expanse of Russia, from Moscow to Vladivostok, the Trans-Siberian railway line covers nearly 5,500 miles, passing through 8 time zones and 80 towns and cities. Begin this unforgettable journey in Moscow by visiting the Kremlin and Red Square. Then, board your luxury train and head east, through Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan. Cross the Urals to once-forbidden Novosibirsk; and onward to Irkutsk, the “Paris of Siberia” on the shores of Lake Baikal; the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar; and the farthest reaches of Siberia.
Itinerary
Upon arrival in Moscow, you will be welcomed by your Cox & Kings local representative and transferred to your hotel. This evening, gather for a welcome reception followed by dinner. Marriott Royal Aurora or similar – 1 night (D)
Embark on a full-day tour of the city of Moscow, including the fabulous Kremlin with its great cathedrals and museums. This afternoon, board your luxury train for the journey across Siberia to Vladivostok. Golden Eagle – 12 nights (B, L, D)
This morning, arrive in the picturesque and historic city of Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Kremlin before re-boarding your train and continuing east. (B, L, D)
Cross the Urals, which divide Europe and Asia, before arriving in Yekaterinburg, capital of the Urals. On a city tour, see the sights, including the site of the execution of the last tsar of Russia, Nikolai Romanov, and his family. (B, L, D)
Stop in the once-closed city of Novosibirsk — a center for science and industry in Siberia — and visit the Opera House, one of the world’s biggest, and Lenin Square. (B, L, D)

This morning, arrive in Irkutsk, known as the “Paris of Siberia” for its wide variety of arts and cultural events. See the major sights and museums of this attractive town. (B, L, D)
On your way east, pass along the shores of Lake Baikal, the world’s largest freshwater lake. Weather permitting, stop to enjoy a barbeque lunch at one of the pretty bays. Continue to Listvyanka, a small Baikal village, to get a taste of the simple life lived in rural Siberia. (B, L, D)
This morning, arrive in remote Ulan Ude, capital of the Buryat Republic. Take a guided tour of the city and enjoy a concert of local music. (B, L, D)
Cross the border and travel south along the steppe before arriving in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. Visit the National History Museum to get a better understanding of the history and culture of this ancient people, and have lunch in a traditional ger (yurt) restaurant. If you like, take an optional visit to spectacular Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. (B, L, D)
Soak up the sights as you enjoy a day at leisure on board the train. (B, L, D)
Savor another day at leisure as you continue east. See Siberia at its most remote and beautiful as your train enters the region of permafrost. (B, L, D)
Reach the most easterly point of the journey today as your train passes through the city of Khabarovsk. (B, L, D)
Arrive in Vladivostok this morning. Take a guided tour of this once-forbidden Russian naval town and transfer to your hotel. Share stories of the rails with newfound friends at a festive farewell dinner at the hotel. Hotel Hyundai – 1 night (B, L, D)
Bid farewell to Russia as you transfer to the airport for your onward flight. (B)

The Golden Eagle:
Travel in comfort aboard the Golden Eagle train, which offers Gold and Silver Class cabins and Imperial suites. Gold Class cabins are 75 sq.ft and feature en suite bathrooms, DVD/audio systems and individual climate control. Silver Class cabins have similar facilities in a more compact space of 64 sq.ft. The Imperial suite has a space of 118 sq.ft and contains a fixed double bed and lounge area with dressing table. The Golden Eagle features a lounge/bar car and a restaurant car.
