Itinerary
Upon arrival in Dubrovnik, you will be welcomed by your Cox & Kings representative and transferred to your hotel, situated a short drive from the historic Old City, isolated from the urban turbulence, occupying a unique position on the Lapad peninsula with beautiful views across the water to the Elafiti Islands. Lord Byron called Dubrovnik “the pearl of the Adriatic”. After breakfast, take a tour of the Old Town. Walk along the stone walls that fortify the city, visit the Franciscan monastery, the opulent Rector’s Palace, iconic Orlando’s Column and the fountain of D’Onofrio. The rest of the day is yours at leisure. Do some exploring, check out a gallery or just relax in a cozy café. (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, embark on your tour of the Peljesac peninsula, a land that has been inhabited since the time of the Greek empire. Hop into your luxury car and relax as your driver takes you to the picturesque village of Orasac, to see an old olive oil mill. In the villages of Potomje and Kuna, sample some of the local wines and visit a family farm. This afternoon, return to the coast and stop by the village of Mali Ston. From the pretty harbor, set sail in a fishing boat for a taste of some of the famed local oysters. (B)
Day at leisure in Dubrovnik (see optional activities below) (B) Dubrovnik Palace (B)The days are yours to explore, and you have a multitude of options to choose from. Hit the islands on one of many exciting adventures. Discover the sea caves, high cliffs, coastal villages and gorgeous landscapes of the Elafiti Islands on a sea kayaking expedition. Hike the trails and pathways of the sunny island of Lopud, home to white, sandy beaches, palm trees, and a relaxed pace of life. Hop aboard a comfy bike and embark upon a cycling exploration of the landscapes, villages and harbors of Sipan Island.
Or head out of town to discover the spectacular Bay of Kotor. After a scenic drive along the coastline, explore the UNESCO World Heritage walled city of Kotor with its fantastic Romanesque cathedral of St. Triphun. Then descend beneath the surface of the earth to see the stalactites, stalagmites and flowstones of stunning Durovic cave. On your way back to Dubrovnik, stop to sample some of the acclaimed wines of the region at a local winery.
Why not spend a day on a sailing expedition aboard a traditional galleon cruising among the islands off the coast of Dubrovnik? Savor a tasty lunch, take a dip in the crystal-clear waters and spend some time relaxing on the sundeck.
Feeling more adventurous? Try your hand at fishing with a local fisherman off the small, rocky Grebeni peninsula. If you’re lucky enough to catch a few, have them prepared in the traditional way by one of the acclaimed chefs at your hotel.
Or hit the trail on a fun horseback ride through olive groves, pine forests and along the rocky Konavle coast. Pause at the summit of Velje hill for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the glittering waters below. If you’d like to see what lies beneath the waters of the Adriatic, a local diving center can give you an underwater tour you’ll never forget. (B)
Option: Get a taste of coastal life at the Grebeni lighthouse, where you can savor a candlelight dinner, play lighthouse keeper for a morning or even spend the night.
