Carnaval: Party Like a Native

Experience Carnaval like few other visitors have—like a native. Saunter down the parade route with your new friends in one of Rio’s world famous samba schools, decked out in your school’s costumes. Celebrate a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the emotion and excitement of Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the all night festivities at the Sambodromo, attend a black tie gala and stay at the Copacabana Palace. Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive Rio de Janeiro
Today you arrive in Rio de Janeiro and are met by your English speaking guide. Transfer to your hotel.

Rio de Janeiro, or River of Day in English, was the capital of the Portuguese empire and of the country up until 1960. Nicknamed A Cidade Maravilhosa – “The Marvelous City” is world-renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and location, nestled between steep, green mountains and crystal clear seas. Rio is one of the most important cultural and economical cities in Brazil and features some of the country’s most famous attractions such as the Pão de Açúcar, the Corcovado, and Copacabana and Ipanema beach. The city is full of energy and Cariocas, the locals of Rio, are known for their care free spirit and charm. Day 2
Sugarloaf Mountain & Carnaval Ball
This morning, you drive with your guide to “Praia Vermelha” to take the two-stage cable car up to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain, which grants a stunning view of Rio’s harbor and Guanabara Bay. The first stage takes you to Morro da Urca which has a restaurant, amphitheater and helicopter-point. You will have a great opportunity to see some of the historical sites of the city such as the Cathedral and the Municipal Theater. The second stage goes on to Sugar Loaf itself. The afternoon is at your leisure.

This evening you are in the ideal location to enjoy the city's official Carnaval Ball. Its magnificent salons are decked out in a different theme every year. This is where the cream of Rio de Janeiro society and the city's celebrity visitors can be seen. Enjoy the traditional carrnaval buffet dinner. The event starts at 2300 hrs and lasts until the wee hours of the morning. (Gala Attire required: Black tie, gown or luxury costume) Copacabana Palace (Ocean View Room) (B, D)
Day 3
Christ the Redeemer
You are taken on a beautiful scenic drive along Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and the Tijuca Forest to the bottom of Corcovado Hill where you will board a comfortable train, which climbs the beautiful mountain. Here you will see the statue of Christ the Redeemer (2,300 feet above sea level) and enjoy a stunning view of the city below. This tour will also take you along the Rio’s famous beaches. Afterwards return to your hotel for time on your own. Copacabana Palace (Ocean View Room) (B)
Day 4
Party Like a Native
This evening you are met and transferred to your frisa seats in the Sambadromo where you can watch the parade, before it is time to meet your samba school. Change into your costume, before your walk with over 100 of your new friends. After the parade you can return to your seats and continue to watch the parade (until 7AM) or return to your hotel. Day 6
Depart Brazil
