An Alaskan Wilderness Adventure

8 days & 7 nights, Private Journey

Anchorage & Alaska Range

Embark on a true Alaskan wilderness adventure-in style. First, fly by floatplane to the Winterlake Lodge in the Alaska Range along the Iditarod Trail, a magnificent area accessible only by plane. You'll have your choice of adventure, including hiking on a glacier, fly fishing in the wilderness, and kayaking through pristine waters. Then, head south to the Kenai Peninsula and the Tutka Bay Lodge where you can search for brown bear, fish for salmon and halibut, try some sea kayaking, and soak up some of the finest scenery in the world. Both lodges are owned by the same Alaskan family who have set and exceeded the standards in Alaska award-winning cuisine. End your journey back in Anchorage, with a privately guided tour and a festive farewell dinner.

  • Day 1
    Arrive Anchorage

Upon arrival at the Anchorage International Airport, you will be met and escorted to your hotel, which is conveniently located in downtown Anchorage.

Hotel Captain Cook - 1 Night
  • Day 2
    Anchorage to Winterlake Lodge

After breakfast this morning, you will be escorted to the world's busiest seaplane base, Anchorage's Lake Hood. Here you will depart by floatplane for the scenic 1-hour flight to Winterlake Lodge. Nestled in the Alaska Range along the Iditarod Trail, this lodge is accessible only by plane, offering seclusion and spectacular scenery. Upon arrival, your lodge hosts will meet you and provide a brief orientation. You'll then have the rest of the day to explore the property and participate in any number of guided activities, including hiking, kayaking, or canoeing. You can also enjoy some more relaxing amenities to the lodge including a stretch/yoga class, a massage, or an afternoon cooking class. Join your hosts and other lodge guests this evening for a wine and cheese tasting followed by a gourmet dinner.

    Winterlake Lodge - 2 Nights (B, L, D)
  • Day 3
    Winterlake Lodge

Embark on your choice of guided adventure away from the lodge. Perhaps fly fishing in the Alaska wilderness, with just your guide, and your gear as company. Or maybe a walk around a thousand-year-old glacier is more to your liking. A helicopter provides access to a variety of locations and lodge staff will work with you to determine the perfect adventure based on your specific interests and abilities.

    Winterlake Lodge (B, L, D)
  • Day 4
    To Tutka Bay Lodge

After a final breakfast at Winterlake, return to Anchorage by floatplane. From Anchorage, depart by scheduled air service to the remote town of Homer, the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the World." Enjoy the spectacular scenery on a 25-minute boat ride across Kachemak Bay to your next destination: Tutka Bay Lodge. New adventures await you in this beautiful coastal setting. Local activities from the lodge include guided hiking, sea kayaking, or even fishing from the lodge dock. And just like Winterlake, its sister property, Tutka Bay offers yoga/stretch classes, a hot tub, and cooking classes.

    Tutka Bay Lodge - 3 Nights (B, L, D)
  • Day 5 - 6
    Tutka Bay Lodge

After breakfast, choose between two world-class Alaskan adventures. For the fishing enthusiasts, embark on a full-day guided deep-sea fishing expedition. Cook Inlet is known as one of the most prolific halibut fisheries in the world. Spend the morning fishing for salmon and then when the tide is right try your hand at bottom fishing for halibut. The nearby Katmai Peninsula is home to one of the largest concentrations of brown bear in the world. Tutka Bay Lodge works with the best local pilots and guides to allow you to observe these magnificent creatures in the wild. On this unforgettable adventure, you'll walk along the same trails and sit on the same riverbanks as the bears. Depending on the season, you can expect to see bears foraging for sedge grass, digging for clams, playing, courting each other, resting, or fishing. Return to the lodge this evening and relax with a yoga class or complimentary massage before joining other lodge guests for dinner.

    Tutka Bay Lodge (B, L, D)
  • Day 7

Return to Anchorage by water taxi and scheduled air service, arriving early in the afternoon. Your private driver-guide will meet you upon arrival to embark on a sightseeing tour of Anchorage, including the Alaska Native Heritage Center where you will learn about Alaska's various native cultures. On the main stage, a storyteller may entertain you with tales, or you may have the opportunity to see native dancers perform and explain traditional native dances. End your day with a festive farewell dinner.
