    Mumbai

    Explore Mumbai's kaleidoscopic past and vibrant present as you see some of the city's landmarks today. Visit the Dhobi Ghats, India's largest open air laundry where workers pick up, wash, dry and deliver thousands of pieces of clothing every day. Then take a stroll through a bustling Crawford Market, Mumbai's most famous marketplace and the first building in the country to be lit by electricity in 1882.

    The afternoon is yours at leisure to continue your explorations of Mumbai or just relax and enjoy the amenities of your hotel.

    To Aurangabad

    Fly to Aurangabad. Enjoy a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ajanta Caves, home to exquisite ancient murals and sculptures that depict the life of Buddha. Carved out of the solid rock with little more than a hammer and a chisel, artisans excavated chapels and monasteries where the Buddhist monks lived and taught.

    After your visit, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

    Discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ellora, where, in the seventh and eighth centuries, sacred Buddhist, Jain and Hindu cave temples were hewn from the rock.

    To Maheshwar

    Drive through the heart of India to Maheshwar, the impregnable citadel of the Holkar dynasty, the Maharajas of Indore. On arrival you may be greeted by Richard Holkar, the Maharaja of Indore.

    Maheshwar

    Today, you will spend the day visiting Mandu, a deserted 15th century Islamic city, as well as Omkareshwar, which is home to one of Hinduism's most important temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.

    To Bhopal

    Drive to Bhopal. Along the way you will visit the caves at Bhimbekta. Wander through these ancient caves where paintings from the past 12,000 years illustrate life in India over the ages. In Bhojpur, visit a temple built in red sandstone and dedicated to Shiva, which houses a perfectly polished huge lingam.

    Bhopal

    Embark on a day trip to the great stupa at Sanchi. With its majestic dome built over the relics, is the largest stone building in India, and also one of the finest examples of Buddhist architecture. Not far away, explore the site Udaygiri, which is dedicated to Ganesha, the God of Wisdom.

    To Agra

    Enjoy the morning at leisure.

    This afternoon, board the train to Agra, the Mughal capital of Agra. On arrival, you will be escorted to your hotel, which overlooks the Taj Mahal.

    Agra

    After breakfast, discover the palaces, mosques and halls of audience of magnificent Agra Fort, a walled city built out of red sandstone in the 16th century. Witness the sunset over the Taj Mahal, which Emperor Shah Jahan built as a shrine to his everlasting love for his queen, Mumtaz Mahal.

    To Delhi

    Watch the rising sun gild the white marble mausoleum of the Taj Mahal. After breakfast and a leisurely morning, continue on to Delhi and your hotel for your last evening.
