    Tel Aviv

    Visit Independence Hall, which highlights the role the city played in establishing the modern state of Israel. Drive through Tel Aviv, admiring the striking Bauhaus architecture on Rothschild Boulevard. In the afternoon, explore Jaffa, perhaps the world's oldest city.

  • Day 3
    To Tiberias

    Travel to Caesarea, once the Roman capital of the Holy Land. View the remains of the Roman and Crusader eras and the harbor from which St. Paul was taken prisoner. Continue to Haifa and ascend to the summit of Mount Carmel for spectacular views. After a stop to see the Persian Gardens at the Bahai Shrine, immerse yourself in the medieval world in historic Acre, headquarters of the Knights of St. John.

    Tiberias

    Trace the rise of early Christianity today beginning with a cruise on the Sea of Galilee. View the church at Tabgha, which was built to commemorate the feeding of the 5,000, and the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered the famed Sermon on the Mount. In Capernaum, see the ancient synagogue where Jesus taught. This afternoon, continue to the Golan Heights and Tel Dan, the ancient Biblical city.

    To Jerusalem

    Start with a visit to the fascinating ruins of Sephhoris, once the center of Jewish spiritual life. Then travel to Nazareth to visit the Basilica of the Annunciation, the biggest church in the Middle East. Stop at Beit Alpha to see the Byzantine-era synagogue. Afterward, drive along the rim of the Jordan Rift Valley to the holy city of Jerusalem.

    Jerusalem

    Begin at the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus was betrayed and arrested. Enter the walled city via the Zion Gate and proceed to the Jewish quarter. See the ancient Roman road at the heart of the city and the restored Sephardic synagogues. Continue to the Western Wall and observe worshippers in prayer. After viewing the Dome of the Rock, walk along the Way of the Cross through the markets of the Christian and Muslim quarters. The Via Dolorosa ends at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site of the Crucifixion and the Tomb of Christ.

    Jerusalem

    Start the day with sweeping views of Jerusalem's walled Old City from the Mount of Olives before visiting Qumran where a Bedouin shepherd boy discovered the Dead Sea Scrolls. Then ascend by cable car to the imposing mountaintop fortress of Masada, from which you can see the pale, blue waters of the Dead Sea.
