Nairobi, Samburu National Park & Masai Mara Game Reserve

Embark on a classic East African safari. As you travel through Kenya, spot great herds of elephant on the savanna, encounter Maasai and Samburu warriors, search for the northern Big Five in Samburu and watch lion and leopard stalk gazelle in the Maasai. Begin and end your journey in Nairobi where you can shop for handicrafts at the Maasai market and learn about conservation efforts at the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant and Rhino Orphanage.

    Arrive Nairobi

    Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be welcomed by your Cox & Kings local representative and accompanied to your hotel, which is located conveniently near the airport.

    Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to rest up from your travels, take a dip in the rooftop pool, pamper yourself in the holistic spa and enjoy the other amenities of your hotel.

  • Day 2
    To Samburu National Park

    Today, fly to Samburu National Park, which is situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the dry northern reaches of Kenya. In this semi-arid setting, see Kenya's "northern Big Five": beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Grevy's zebra and Somali ostrich. Sightings of large herds of elephant and crocodile are common along the meandering Ewaso Nyiro River. Keep your eyes open for Samburu herdsmen, dressed in rich red blankets, driving their herds across the lands.

    Samburu National Park

    Enjoy two days of exciting early morning and late afternoon game drives in Samburu National Park, complemented by cultural visits to the neighboring villages to learn about traditional ways of life in this remote region of the world. Back at your comfortable camp, share stories of your daily adventures over tasty, home-cooked dinners.

    To Masai Mara Reserve

    After breakfast this morning, depart Samburu and fly to the Masai Mara with its striking landscapes of wide plains interlaced with seasonal rivers, all nestled under the huge skies of East Africa. Throughout the year, the Masai Mara is an unforgettable place of natural drama, a kaleidoscope of vibrant color and life. Your luxurious camp overlooks the Talek River and is just a short drive away from the banks of the Mara River where millions of wildebeest and zebra cross into Tanzania and the plains of the Serengeti during their annual Great Migration.

    Masai Mara Reserve

    Embark upon early morning and late afternoon game drives in the Masai Mara. The famed "Big Five" - elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo - all roam the reserve, together with hundreds of other species, from the fastest animal on earth, the cheetah, to crocodile, endangered wild dog and magnificent birds of prey. During your time here, embark on morning and afternoon game drives, photographic safaris with trained naturalist guides, and bush dinners under the magnificent East African skies.

  • Day 8
    Depart Nairobi

    Today, fly to Nairobi. Freshen up in your day room, and then discover some of Nairobi's highlights. Get up close and personal with magnificent giraffe at the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife's Giraffe Center. Learn about the important conservation work being done by the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant and Rhino Orphanage, which helps the country's endangered elephant and rhino populations as they face the problems of poaching and habitat loss due to deforestation and drought. You may also browse the handicrafts and art at the Maasai market. This evening, bid farewell to Kenya and continue to the airport for your onward flight.
