Immerse yourself in the magnificent countryside in Yorkshire Dales National Park and North York Moors National Park, take in the flavor of local life at the marketplaces, cafes and pubs of traditional Yorkshire villages, and see the medieval city of York.
Day 1Arrive Manchester / Windermere
Upon arrival in Manchester, you will be met by a Cox & Kings representative and privately escorted to your hotel in Windermere, which lies in the heart of the Lake District. If you like, begin exploring the local area or just relax tonight.Preferred: Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa

After breakfast, meet your private guide at your hotel and begin your discovery of the best of the Lake District as you wind through magnificent mountain scenery and stunning lakes. Along the way, admire the surrounding fells as your guide regales you with tales of the history, events, and people that have shaped this much-loved national park. Skirt the banks of Lake Windermere and continue towards Grasmere. William Woodworth was one of many writers to find inspiration in the Lake District's magnificent landscapes, so much so that he moved here. Dove Cottage was his home, and remains almost exactly as it was when he lived and wrote here. In Grasmere, see his grave and sample the local gingerbread made since 1854. In the picturesque medieval village of Hawkshead, trace the history of Wordsworth as well as Beatrix Potter. Continue to Tarn Hows, which is one of the most photographed locations in the Lake District. Day 3To Harrogate
This morning enjoy a unique one-on-one experience of handling a sheepdog on a working farm in the Lake District. Afterwards, take a spectacular journey through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. Encounter some of Yorkshire's hidden secrets. Visit the picturesque market village of Hawes and observe the process of making delectable Wensleydale Cheese (and taste some samples). Continue to Harrogate seeing Bolton Abbey en route.

Spend the day exploring North Yorkshire. Begin your day with a visit to Fountain's Abbey. Tucked away in a scenic river valley, Fountain's Abbey is a World Heritage Site and a picture of medieval grandeur. Once a towering Cistercian monastery, it's now a well-preserved ruin, rich in atmosphere and surrounded by lush green landscapes. On the same estate you'll find the soothing Georgian water gardens of Studley Royal. Continue to Newby Hall, one of England's finest family houses - an exceptional example of 18th century interior decoration. Visit the beautiful gardens before continuing to Ripon. Take a stroll around the beautiful town of Ripon and explore the grand cathedral. Return to Harrogate at the end of the day.

Day 5To York
This morning travel to York. Explore York including the medieval Shambles, Museum Gardens and a walk on the city walls with your guide. Continue to the enormous York Minster, the largest and finest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe, which is renowned for its outstanding stained glass. Climb the tower for an unparalleled view of the city. End your day with a treat - York has been known for making chocolate for 300 years - on a guided tour of York's Chocolate Story.Preferred: Hilton York

After breakfast this morning, traverse the North York Moors National Park, a vast tract of purple moorland, steep, deep-sided valleys and clumps of thick forest. Visit Goathland, which is known as Hogsmeade in the Harry Potter films. Explore the charming village and enjoy a cup of tea in these stunning surroundings. Your journey continues by train on the stunning steam-hauled North York Moors Railway. Upon arrival in Whitby, explore the old seaside town and climb the steps to the famous Whitby Abbey. Enjoy lunch of fish & chips at Magpie Cafe, one of the finest fish restaurants in Britain. Return to York via Castle Howard.
